Department Listings

Our staff serve in one or more departments at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly. Duties and responsibilities are as follows:

Housekeeping

Clean guest rooms, assist with daily room service, clean public areas including lobbies, porches and restrooms. Includes such duties as dusting, vacuuming, making beds, scouring toilets and sinks and assisting with laundry. Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. and work with chemicals.

Food Service/Dining Room

Work a variety of assignments including dishwashing, food preparation, stocking buffet line, table side service, cleaning dining tables and floors. Lift up to 35 lbs. to table height and stand and walk for eight hours.

Conference Services

Meet the needs of the conference groups including, setting up meeting rooms, lobby areas, playing fields, porches and auditoriums. Involves audio-visual setup, delivering refreshments, table and chair arrangements and other services. Work at the Conference Services desk dispensing room keys, sorting mail, delivering messages, checking out athletic equipment and relaying information. Lift and carry 50 lbs. up and down stairs and in/out of vehicles.

Grounds

Duties are related to the general upkeep and appearance of the grounds at Blue Ridge. Includes such tasks as weeding, mowing, clearing brush, trail maintenance, and gardening. Grounds staff is also responsible for daily disposal of trash and recycling. Seasonal duties include blowing leaves, snow removal, and salting roads and sidewalks. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, stand and walk for 8 hours.

Guest Services

Duties include meeting, greeting and interacting with guests. Communicating with guests over the telephone and in person. Answering questions, assigning housing, dispensing room keys, filing records and preparing bills, using computer, photocopier and fax machine and operating the switchboard. Handling of emergency situations on switchboard and radio. Making change, balancing cash drawer, completing reports and maintaining an accurate account of daily income.

Program

For all activity areas, we seek responsible, enthusiastic, caring role models. Leaders may assist or supervise in our high and low ropes challenge courses, outdoor adventure and environmental education activities, or in our Craft and Child Care programs.

Aquatics

Pool staff must be a certified American Red Cross lifeguard or have the Y lifeguard certification, First Aid Certification, and CPR Certification. Duties include enforcing policies and procedures and cleaning the deck, pool, and restrooms. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs., work with chemicals, and work the pool vacuum cleaner.

Leadership Staff

Leaders are considered Support Staff with added responsibilities. Leaders are assigned to one of the Assembly’s service departments and will provide oversight of collegiate staff working in that department, as well as standard departmental duties. A leader must possess well-developed communication and customer service skills and a strong work ethic. They provide leadership and initiative so that daily job tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Leaders should have experience in a team situation and apply creativity and initiative to enhance the operation of the department.
