RETREAT INFORMATION:

Required Texts

All retreat participants must have the FPMT Retreat Prayer Book published in 2016. The book is currently only available digitally through the Foundation Store and includes a 2020 errata sheet. The 2020 errata sheet is also available available on FPMT.org for those who already own the prayer book.

No prayer books are being printed. If retreat participants wish to have a hard copy, they are welcome to acquire prayer book digitally and print it for themselves. The 2020 errata sheet can be used to update the 2016 version.

Complete retreat prayer books with errata sheets are available in English only. Other languages are forthcoming.

Other Texts

All retreat participants must have the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment. The Lama Tsongkhapa Guru Yoga text is available in PDF format from the FPMT Foundation Store here.

Note: If you have the Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment from an earlier Light of the Path Retreat, you will not need a new copy.

Translation

Translation in Spanish will be provided. You will need an FM radio with headphones.

Note: If you need translation into a language other than Spanish, you will need to find a translator. FPMT centers in your region may be able to help with this.
If you have translation skills and would volunteer to translate for others at the retreat, please indicate which language.
Seating will be either in a chair or on a meditation cushion. There will be a limited number of cushions provided at the retreat. Please bring a cushion from home if possible.

Transportation on Site

Blue Ridge Assembly is situated on a steep hillside. Note: If walking on hills is difficult for you, please consider choosing the Asheville Hall accommodations – they are closest to the gompa and dining area. We will provide “bodhicitta bus” golf cart rides between buildings at key times for those who need help.

Volunteering - karma yoga

Offering karma yoga volunteer service is an important part of retreat and is an expression of bodhicitta mind.

We need one person who is knowledgeable about video beamers and (Mac) computers to assist the AV team.
If you are able to volunteer a special skill during the retreat (yoga instruction, massage therapy, acupuncture, etc.), please provide specifics above.
If you have medical or mental health care skills, please provide specifics above.

Meals

All meals will be vegetarian with accommodations for vegan and gluten-free diets. For those with severe allergies, we cannot guarantee that you will not encounter your allergen in meals prepared by Blue Ridge Assembly. We urge you to share your allergy concerns directly with the Blue Ridge staff in writing – ashetzline@Yblueridge.org – to help ensure your protection. If you are unsure about the ingredients for any dish, you will need to ask the food service staff on site.

Precepts

We will have precepts during the retreat. There will be juices available in the evening for students taking precepts, paid in part by the meal payment. This will not affect your registration cost.

Mental & Physical Health

The retreat experience can be very intense and can bring emotional issues to the fore, including issues that have been stabilized for some time in ordinary circumstances. Keeping this in mind, consider whether you feel stable and relaxed enough to participate in this course, knowing that we cannot provide one-on-one counseling.
It is important to continue taking your medications during the retreat.
