Annual Campaign The Blue Ridge Scholarship Fund, established in 1982, is our annual giving campaign whose contributions help support a variety of programs at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly. When Dr. Willis D. Weatherford, Sr. founded Blue Ridge in 1906, he envisioned a place where people, particularly young people, would experience the five guiding principles that had shaped his own life. Weatherford’s principles continue to challenge and inspire more than 1,500 young YMCA leaders each year to serve as collegiate staff, represent the Assembly in foreign lands or attend major YMCA youth leadership conferences held on the mountain. By supporting the Blue Ridge Scholarship Fund, you ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances or ability to pay, can benefit from the life-changing work that we do. Your gift will: Provide scholarship money to enable teens in need to participate in major YMCA national youth conferences including Blue Ridge Leaders' School, Christian Values Conference, Youth Conference on National Affairs, and Christian Leadership Conference. Offer grant assistance to allow public school youth to participate in experiential education opportunities. Support family programs that promote healthy lifestyles and encourage intergenerational bonding experiences. Enable the Assembly to maintain an active role in international YMCA work through the Blue Ridge Ambassador Program. Sustain the collegiate work-study experience for Assembly staff, guiding growth and encouraging positive lifestyle choices through service, fellowship and learning. Maintain the Assembly’s Chaplain services and spiritual development program.
